Rep Ilhan Omar stated “some people did something” when referencing the attacks of 9/11, while speaking at a Muslim rights group’s event.
That something was 2,977 people dead by terrorists. That something was a national tragedy.
She didn’t condemn the attacks. She didn’t say how terrible it was. She didn’t chastise the terrorists who took part in the deed. She just nonchalantly spoke of it like it was an everyday occurrence, as one would speak of taking out the trash.
“They do that all the time, especially women of color, they take our words out of context because they’re afraid because we speak truth, we speak truth to power,” Tlaib said.
“My sister Ilhan Omar, what she was talking about, was uplifting people by supporting their civil liberties and civil rights. She has always, always condemned any strategy, especially of a person directly impacted by being a refugee herself.
Is it because she knew her audience’s opinions on the subject? Why is it AOC (Crazy Cortez) and Tlaib are the first to come to her rescue when criticized? 9/11 was a big deal. It was a life-changing moment for America. It’s not something that will just be swept under the rug.
She deserves criticism. She gave not one victim of the attacks the respect they deserve. Perhaps we’ll see an apology on her Twitter page, but I’m not going to hold my breath on this one. I think her words and actions speak volumes about how she truly feels about America.
