60K party to help the poor…

Democrats partied with Beyonce in South Africa a few months ago, to the tune of 60K in expenses….to help raise awareness for the poor.

The trip included First Class plane tickets, luxurious hotel suites, and a list of celebrities including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ed Sheeran, and others.

The lawmakers were U.S. Reps. Gregory Meeks of New York, Barbara Lee of California, Bobby Rush of Illinois, Terri Sewell of Alabama and Hank Johnson of Georgia, according to the data.

“These members of Congress that were given an all-expense paid vacation to party with Oprah, Jay Z, and Beyoncé in South Africa are claiming with a straight face this was needed to help poor children around the world live better lives.”

Tom Anderson, president, National Legal and Policy Center’s Government Integrity Project

While the taxpayer did not directly pay for the excursion (that was on Global Citizen, a non-profit that lobbies for anti-poverty programs), one has to wonder what was in it for them? Perhaps a bill to be passed later in the future, a grant maybe?

Could not that 60K have been better spent providing food, clothing, clean water and shelter to a gang-load of people, rather than pandering to the already-posh lifestyles of the politicians at hand?

Just seems funny to be treated like Kings and Queens when you’re supposed to be helping the poor….
