Kawasaki, Japan: Moments before attacking a group of children, aged 6 to 11, boarding a school bus, the man yelled “I will kill you.”

The children were standing in line for the bus when the attack occurred. The man, whose motives are unclear, stabbed the children one by one, using two knives, as he ran past them. Ultimately this resulted in the death of one 11-year-old girl, and a man in his 30s who was an official with Japan’s Foreign Ministry.

Kanagawa prefectural police only confirmed the death of sixth-grade schoolgirl Hanako Kuribayashi, 11, from Tokyo. Hospital officials at a televised news conference confirmed the 11-year-old’s death as well as that of a man in his 30s, saying both of them had been slashed in the head, chest and face.

19 people were injured in total, of the school children stabbed, all 17 of them were girls. Before being apprehended, the knife-wielding maniac fatally stabbed himself in the neck with one of his knives.

Kawasaki Police said a total of 19 people were injured, including the two victims who died. Police have named the girl who was killed as Hanako Kuribayashi. Her age was previously given as 12 by a spokesperson at Nippon Medical School Musashi Kosugi Hospital.

The adult male victim, 39-year-old Satoshi Oyama, was a father of a 1st grade student at Caritas Elementary School and a government employee. It is not clear if Oyama’s child was hurt in the incident.
All 17 children who were stabbed were girls, most of whom were lower elementary students, according to Saito.

Can’t believe I’m actually quoting CNN LOL….

The last attack anywhere near the amount of casualties suffered in Japan happened in 2010. Attacks such as these are in fact quite rare, as the country is considered one of the safest in the world.
