Supreme Court votes against citizenship question in 2020 census 5 to 4

Official portrait of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts.

The Trump administration’s plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census was blocked by the supreme court today with a vote of 5 to 4.

Chief justice John Robert’s sided with the liberals.

“cannot ignore the disconnect between the decision made and the explanation given.”

The Supreme Court majority executive branch has authority on what goes on the census.

Roberts wrote  that “neither respondents nor my colleagues have been able to identify any relevant, judicially manageable limits on the Secretary’s decision to put a core demographic question back on the census.”

This seems like it would just be common sense to be on the census but apparently the Supreme court did not see it that way..
