A Different Look At Climate Change

Spread the love

Would you pick up a strangers trash and put it in the garbage? Could you go a year without producing garbage? Could you give up traveling by plane? Could you go without eating packaged food(s)?

What if I told you that by accomplishing any of the aforementioned, you would be adding a few more years to planet earth or to your life? Would and could you do it?

Wait.. before you roll your eyes hear me out. This is not a piece about global warming or climate change. And I’m not about to go all “Greta Thunberg.” I am, however, going to ask you to consider the questions I proposed.

Like many of you, I too am a skeptic of sorts about the world ending due to climate change or global warming. I do believe the world will end eventually, but I don’t think it will be over within 12 years or less, or that we humans are the main cause for the world’s impending demise.

What I do think and believe is that we can all do our part to make this world a better place ecologically, spiritually and environmentally. I think this can all be done minus the screaming and yelling that currently exist. Perhaps if the right person(s) came out with the right message and spoke truth to power we might find common ground.

Recently I had the privilege of having a conversation with a person who might fit that bill.  His name is Joshua Spodek.

Spodek practices what he teaches or lives by. He has actually “picked up at least one piece of street trash per day since April 2017, and he takes over a year to produce a load of garbage.” He does not consider himself a climate change activist, but rather lives by his values.

When he and I spoke, he wasn’t trying to convince me of climate change or convert me into his way of thinking or living. Instead, he was merely sharing with me or giving me a glimpse into his life.

I would like to invite you to listen in on our conversation.  You decide if there is common ground in a world of loud rhetoric over the environment.

Spodek appears to be living his best life in making his (our) world a better place in his own way.
