Please tell me how this video of Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B dry humping on TV with their buttocks exposed is reclaiming a woman’s sexuality? (Let alone a black woman’s sexuality).
This risque minstrel show took place during the Grammys Sunday night. A night where seemingly talented musicians are supposed to be recognized for their exceptional talent. While the performance might be debated as exceptional for a Sunday night, there was nothing talented about it. It had no redeeming value unless you are on a stripper pole dancing for dollars.
If anything, the performance exhibited the degradation and over-sexualization of black women for money. It is a sell-out of black women and cheapens who they are. Women – black women -have struggled for years against these negative stereotypes (created by the left in a male-dominated rap world). What took place Sunday night did nothing to help.
Black women celebrating this garbage doesn’t help either. Sad to say, but recently Maxine Waters, the black congresswoman from California, praised Megan, whose birth name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, in an interview. In essence, the aged-congresswoman said she was proud of the rapper’s accomplishments and the success of her song “WAP” aka “Wet As* Psy.”
How far will it go?
The type of debauchery on stage Sunday night was really bad. It is indicative of how far we have fallen morally as a society. Not that long ago these explicit lyrics and performances were condoned when performed by black male rappers. What changed? They should be condoned now.
And to think this latest performance took place during family time on TV.
